The Story Behind Nasya's Breath
Nasya's Breath was born from pain, but rooted in hope.
From the age of eleven, Bea knew she wanted to make a difference in the world. That purpose has guided every stage of her life. As the eldest of four siblings, a devoted wife and mother of four, caring for others has always been at the heart of who she is. It led her into mental health support work before qualifying as a registered nurse, where she cared for people across emergency care, neuro-rehabilitation, palliative care and community settings within both the NHS and private sector.
Everything changed after a serious injury led to debilitating chronic pain. While Bea still wholeheartedly believes that, had that injury not happened, she would not be living with chronic pain today, her journey taught her that the story was more complex. Through years of learning about pain science, trauma and the nervous system, she came to understand that the childhood abuse, psychological trauma and narcissistic abuse she had survived had also taken a profound toll on her body, leaving her nervous system in survival mode long before the injury occurred.
Pain gradually consumed every part of Bea's life. She struggled to walk and lived with migraines, IBS and overwhelming fatigue. She lost her nursing career, her independence and many of the relationships she believed would always be there. One of her greatest heartbreaks was no longer being able to pick up her youngest daughter, who was just three years old when the injury happened. As a single mother at the time, she spent many days in bed while her children were at school, overwhelmed by pain and depression. She became reliant on strong pain medication until dependence and addiction took hold and was eventually faced with the challenge of withdrawing from the medication while grieving the life she had lost. Despite countless setbacks and the exhausting cycle of pushing through and crashing afterwards, she never stopped searching for another way.
Bea made herself a promise: if she could find another way to live alongside pain, she would dedicate her life to helping others do the same.
That promise led Bea to immerse herself in pain science, neuroscience, mindfulness and nature-based practices. Through this exploration, she discovered a deeper understanding of the relationship between the mind, body and nervous system, and experienced first-hand the profound impact that mindfulness and connection with nature could have on her wellbeing and pain. These experiences, together with her Christian faith, gave Bea a renewed sense of hope and a deeper appreciation of the interconnectedness of ourselves, each other and the natural world.
From these experiences, Bea found that there is another way and Nasya's Breath was born.
Today, Nasya's Breath brings together Bea's lived experience of chronic pain, her background in nursing, her work as a person-centred counsellor, and her training in mindfulness, pain science and nature connection. Her approach has also been influenced by the work of Professor Lorimer Moseley, Dr Michael Richardson, Dr Gabor Maté, Dr Caroline Leaf, Dr Joe Dispenza and Carl Rogers, whose teachings have deepened her understanding of pain, trauma, healing and human potential.
Every programme Bea has created has been carefully developed from both lived experience and professional knowledge. Her work is grounded in compassion, curiosity and evidence-informed practice, supporting people to better understand their pain, regulate their nervous systems, reconnect with nature, rediscover themselves and reclaim meaningful lives.
Bea does not promise to take pain away. Instead, she offers something she believes can be just as powerful: hope, understanding and the possibility of a different relationship with yourself, nature and the pain. Because while chronic pain may become part of a person's story, she believes it does not have to define the rest of their life.
